Dr James McGowan
Clinical Research Associate
James McGowan is a Clinical Research Associate at THIS Institute and a specialty registrar in public health medicine with Public Health England (PHE).
Most recently James was an Acting Consultant in Health Protection in the East of England Health Protection Team supporting the regional response to Covid-19, following a secondment to support PHE’s emergency preparedness, resilience and response (EPRR) function. He was previously a specialty registrar in PHE’s national Health Protection Directorate, a NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow in public health medicine at University of Cambridge and a NHS National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellow based at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
James is a member of the UK Faculty of Public Health. He holds MB ChB degrees from University of Edinburgh and a MPH from Harvard University.
Research Interests
James’s research interests lie in generating evidence to improve the management of health services in order to improve quality of care for patients in the NHS.
