Dr Lisa Hinton

Senior Research Associate

Lisa is a Senior Research Associate at THIS Institute, leading applied research programmes with a focus on maternity safety.

 Lisa has a degree in Social and Political Sciences from the University of Cambridge, and a DPhil in Medical Sociology from the University of Oxford. She was previously Director of Applied Research for the Health Experiences Research Group in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care in Oxford where she worked from 2010-2019. Lisa teaches qualitative methods and supervises PhD students. Before her research career, Lisa worked in policy and was a TV and radio producer working for the BBC and Channel 4.

Research Interests

Lisa’s programme of work is focused on using applied social science research to understand patient and staff experiences and improve care. Her research specialises in pregnancy and pregnancy complications, childbirth, maternal morbidity, neonatal and adult intensive care. She uses innovative qualitative health research to develop and evaluate complex interventions and to inform health policy and service improvement. At THIS Institute she is leading work on maternity safety.
