Supporting the generation of evidence to improve healthcare quality and safety, his work has explored the use of collaborative methods in healthcare research, the role played by organisational culture in healthcare settings, the mechanisms that enable certain quality improvement interventions to be more effective than others, and the means by which such interventions can be scaled most successfully. Akbar studied at the University of Cambridge, from which he has a BA in Archaeology and Anthropology, an MPhil in Modern Society and Global Transformations, and a PhD in Sociology.
