Dr Gizdem Akdur

Research Associate

Gizdem is a research associate working on the evaluation of two national maternity programmes.

Gizdem has a mixed background in management information systems, health services research, and software engineering. Before joining THIS Institute, she was a senior research fellow at the Centre for Research in Public Health and Community Care (CRIPACC) – University of Hertfordshire. Here, she worked in multidisciplinary teams on two NIHR-funded studies, DACHA and CHAPPI, focusing on care home resident data sets and research involvement in older people’s care homes. Prior to that, she worked as a teaching fellow in the Department of Digital Humanities at King’s College London. Gizdem completed her PhD at the London School of Economics, under the Information Systems and Innovation Faculty Research Group. Her thesis focused on analysing discourses of old age from national care policies and local adult social care practices related to telecare technologies for older people.

Research Interests

Gizdem’s interests include health information systems, care home research, policy analysis, evidence synthesis in health services, and the use of qualitative and mixed research methods.
