Dr Jill Maben is a Professor of Health Services Research in School of Health Sciences at the University of Surrey. Jill is a nurse and social scientist having studied History at UCL after qualifying as a nurse.
Jill has undertaken national and internationally recognised nursing and health care research and her programme of work seeks to understand the links between staff wellbeing at work and patient experiences of care. Jill’s work investigates the emotional costs of caring and what supports staff to care well. Jill was a member of the Prime Minister’s commission on nursing in 2013, was a member of the Board of the Point of Care Foundation 2013-15 and a member of the Health Education England commission 2018 into Staff and Learner Wellbeing & Mental Health. Jill was awarded an OBE in June 2014 for services to nursing and healthcare. In 2013 she was in the Health Services Journal ‘Top 100 leaders’ and was also included in the Health Service Journal’s inaugural list of Most Inspirational Women in Healthcare the same year.
