Dr Katie Richards

Research Associate

Katie is a Research Associate at THIS Institute. She has an MSc in Human Cognitive Neuropsychology from University of Edinburgh and a PhD in Psychological Medicine from King’s College London. Her PhD involved evaluating the implementation and effectiveness of an early intervention service for eating disorders as it was scaled across England. She used qualitative and quantitative methods to understand how the service was implemented in routine practice, which provided insights into what worked well and areas for improvement in the future.

Before joining THIS, Katie worked as a Research Assistant/Associate in King’s Improvement Science at the Centre of Implementation Science, King’s College London. In this role, she primarily led projects focused on capability and capacity building in quality improvement across King’s Health Partner organisations. She also previously worked as a Research Assistant for NHS Research Scotland’s Mental Health Network, where she worked across a portfolio of mental health studies, including mental health risk and resilience in young people, nursing interventions in epilepsy and intellectual disabilities, and visual processing in neurodevelopmental disorders.

Research Interests

Katie is primarily interested in using research and data insights to significantly improve the quality of care for both patients and staff by closely partnering with healthcare staff, patients, and carers to ensure that research findings are not only scientifically sound but also practically applicable. She is also interested in early intervention, prevention, mental health and the social and psychological processes of translating evidence into practice.
