Dr Kristina Wanyonyi-Kay

Research Programme Leader

Kristina is Research Programme Leader and Senior Research Associate at THIS Institute.

Kristina has a degree in Dental Surgery from the University of Nairobi, a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Dundee and a PhD in health services research and population health from King’s College London. She has previously held academic and research positions at the University of Dundee, King’s College London, University of Portsmouth and Queen Mary University. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She was the NIHR Clinical Research Network Lead for the Oral and Dental Speciality in Wessex between 2017 and 2020. Since 2020, she has been a member of the Health and Science Committee of the British Dental Association.

Research Interests

Kristina’s research interests are in improving effectiveness and efficiency in health services and addressing health inequalities. She uses mixed method research techniques and pragmatic designs such as the use of routine data and electronic health records to shape and test health service interventions.

Her portfolio of research is collaborative across chronic diseases. She has undertaken healthcare improvement research in primary care, hospitals and social care.
