Matthew Woodward

Research Associate

Matthew is a Research Associate specialising in human factors/ergonomics and decision making.

Matthew is a chartered human factors specialist with an MSc in Ergonomics (Human Factors) from Loughborough University. He has several years of industry experience applying human factors in engineering with a focus on the design and conduct of simulation and usability studies. Prior to joining THIS Institute he worked as a patient safety researcher and educator for the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences in Oxford.

Research Interests

Matthew’s research is in the discipline of human factors/ergonomics (HFE), an approach that studies the interactions between people, technology, tasks and the environment to inform and improve work system design. He has conducted HFE research into the implementation and evaluation of improvement interventions in radiography, ward-theatre workflow and inter-hospital electronic referral systems. He has a particular research interest in the application of decision-making theory to patient flow and hospital bed management.
