New fellowship programme opens with PhD opportunities
Hot on the heels of our launch, we’re delighted to announce details of our fellowship programme. The fellowships, which may be held at any UK university, offer talented researchers the opportunity to lead high-quality studies that will advance the field of healthcare improvement research. UK universities are invited to apply.
Applications for the PhD fellowships open on Thursday 1 February 2018. The awards range from £137,500 to £276,000, and are intended to draw out fresh ideas about healthcare, from people with clinical or non-clinical backgrounds and from diverse fields including, for example, law, business studies, philosophy or engineering.
THIS Institute’s fellowship programme builds on the improvement science programmes previously run by the Health Foundation and include opportunities for post-doctoral and senior research fellowships, which open in spring 2018.
Dr Rebecca Simmons, Deputy Director of THIS Institute said:
“We need to strengthen the evidence-base for improving the quality and safety of healthcare.”
“To help us do that, we are investing in a new generation of multidisciplinary experts with skills in researching healthcare improvement to build that evidence. Alongside disciplines already active in this area (such as health services research, epidemiology, and social science), we’re looking for contributions from fields within and beyond healthcare, including, for example, law, business studies, philosophy, engineering and many more.”
Fellows will have access to a mentoring scheme and will be offered membership of THIS Institute’s Community of Scholars, an interdisciplinary, intergenerational, professional learning group focused on the study of improvement in healthcare. The Community of Scholars will meet regularly at Homerton College in Cambridge and will also function as a professional learning community.
