Tim Draycott Scholarship Fund: continuing a vision for safer care

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Professor Tim Draycott (1964–2025), a pioneer in maternity safety whose work has saved countless lives in the UK and internationally. Tim was a consultant obstetrician and a driving force behind PROMPT – the multi-professional maternity emergencies programme that has transformed care worldwide. He was a passionate advocate for collaborative, evidence-based approaches and for putting the dignity and experience of women and families at the heart of maternity care.

Tim worked closely with THIS Institute from the very beginning. His collaborations with us were innovative, creative, and impactful, due to his enduring commitment to combining rigorous evidence with practical solutions to improve maternity care. His rare ability to bring people together, his commitment to equity and inclusion, and his generosity of spirit made him not only a trusted collaborator but also a warm, funny, and inspiring presence whose wisdom and energy touched everyone at THIS.

To honour Tim’s extraordinary contribution, we have established the Tim Draycott Scholarship Fund*. The fund will support the work that Tim and the institute championed together: generating evidence that translates directly into better care, particularly in maternity and women’s health. It will enable the next generation to carry forward Tim’s vision for safer, fairer, high-quality care.
