Dr Zoë Fritz

Associate Professor in Medical Ethics and Ageing

Zoë Fritz is Associate Professor in Medical Ethics and Ageing based at THIS Institute and a consultant physician in acute medicine at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. She is a former Wellcome fellow in society and ethics. Her research is focused on identifying areas of clinical practice that raise ethical questions and applying rigorous empirical and ethical analysis to explore the issues and find effective solutions.

Zoë has a degree in Pathology from the University of Cambridge, qualified as a doctor from Imperial College London in 2001 and has a PhD in health sciences from Warwick. She has maintained an active clinical career while conducting research in both Cambridge and Warwick universities, and has worked with colleagues to translate her research findings into policy at both local and national levels.

Research Interests

Zoë will lead a high-impact programme of research on ethical issues in healthcare, particularly as they arise in the context of ageing. She is currently investigating how we communicate and record uncertainty around diagnosis, particularly in the acute care setting. Her Wellcome university award enabled her to collaborate with those in the departments of law and philosophy and provided grounding for future interdisciplinary research to improve medical practice.
