Reversing the spiral of dissatisfaction in access to general practice
The problems currently facing UK general practice need to be urgently addressed. With a new government now in place, and the problem of public dissatisfaction with general practice access recognised in the Labour party manifesto, hard questions need to be asked about healthcare priorities, and what the public can expect from general practice going forward.
Along with the ever-present issue of being able to access an appointment with a doctor when it’s needed, there are more crucial questions that need answers, such as what general practice is for and what access means.
In this BMJ opinion piece, Mary Dixon-Woods and Carol Sinnott talk about ways in which the spiral of dissatisfaction in access to general practice could potentially be addressed by the new government.
